The Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) Program is NBMBAA’s premier initiative directed toward the youth of our nation. LOT’s objectives are to prepare African-American high school students for life in college and beyond, as exemplary corporate citizens. There are 26 active LOT chapters throughout the United States.  The Philadelphia Chapter of LOT focuses on developing the business, communication and life skills of high school students from the Greater Philadelphia area to include South Jersey and the Philadelphia suburbs. Any African-American student that resides in the Philadelphia metropolitan area who is a high school student or will be graduating from eighth grade by July of 2010 may apply.

The application for LOT 2010 Program may be accessed from the above link.  The application deadline is March 6, 2010.  This is year's class will be limited to 50 students. 

Highlights of LOT

  • Performed Community Service, taking telephone pledges, on May 5, 2007, at the Spring Fund-raiser for WHYY Radio
  • Visited the Civil War & Underground Railroad Museum of Philadelphia for field trip
  • Raised $1,345 with in-house scented candle sale fund-raiser
  • In 2007 hosted 12 other LOT chapters for the Business School Case Competition Sponsored by ExxonMobil (Apple, Inc. Case)
    1. South Florida (first place $6,000.00)
    2. Philadelphia (second place $4,000.00)
    3. Columbus, OH (third place, $2,000.00)
  • 8 students attended the 2007 NBMBAA National Conference in Orlando, FL
  • 10 students attended the 2008 NBMBAA National Conference in Washington, D.C.

 

Two Philadelphia Chapter Students Dominique Peden and Ahmadu Ebpaji won $1,000 scholarship from NHQ for their National Conference application essays.  Both Dominique and Ahmadu wrote about Harry T. Moore, who founded the Brevard County, FL NAACP in 1934 Nomble Coleman is a 4 year LOT student and winner of the sole LOT full tuition scholarship awarded by Bentley College for the year 2007.    Annual tuition is $31,450 or $125,800 for four years.  Ross J. D. Wilkins is a two year LOT student and winner of the 2007 $2,000 LOT Northeast Regional Scholarship awarded by AXA Financial Advisors.

2007 National L.O.T. Competition

The National Black MBA Association’s 6th Annual Leaders of Tomorrow® (LOT) Case Competition Sponsored by ExxonMobil, was held on Saturday, June 23rd in Philadelphia.

 

High school students represented 11 local NBMBAA chapters from as far way as Detroit, Dallas and Miami participated.  The competition was held at the prestigious Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania at Jon Huntsman Hall, 38th & Walnut Streets. 

 

The NBMBAA Philadelphia Chapter was represented by Morgan Brooks of Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts, Jamira Burley of Overbrook High and Ross Wilkins of Cheltenham High.
