   LET’S MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!

Serve-A-Thon

Looking for an opportunity to serve your community?  Join the NBMBAA Philadelphia Chapter in participating in Serve-A- Thon on Saturday May 15, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  at the Tustin Recreation Center (60th Street and Columbia Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19151).

Serve-A-Thon is one of City Year Greater Philadelphia’s signature service events where hundreds of volunteers will perform a single day of physical service. City Year leads volunteers, ranging from school-age children and youth to corporate employees to active community members, in restoring and beautifying recreation centers used for the public good.  The work performed by these volunteers transforms community resources into brighter, cleaner, and safer places for kids to participate in summer camps, after-school programs, and other enrichment activities.  The event further serves to connect people of different backgrounds, ages, and life experiences in a day of powerful community service.

If you are participating in this event, please send an e-mail to community@nbmbaa-philly.org.

You don’t need to change your life to change the life of a boy.

Our region faces a chronic shortage of men willing to mentor boys who need role models.  Volunteer as a Big Brother to a boy in your community and help keep kids in school and away from drugs, alcohol and violence.

-          Hangout with a boy 2-4 times each month for at least one year.

-          You don’t have to be a superhero or have a lot of money.

-          Have a catch, play video games or go to the park – be yourself!

Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern PA serves more than 4,000 children annually in one-to-one mentoring relationships in Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties.  With all that children face today, and the disheartening statistics on truancy, drop-out rates and violence, our work is truly necessary.  Children need support and guidance as they grow up, and mentoring provides one more adult who can be that guide.  With more than 1,100 children - 700 of them boys - on our waiting list, we know the need is great.  When children have more opportunities for productive futures, the outlook for our families, communities and businesses brightens.  Learn more about volunteering and investing at bbbssepa.org or by contacting Spencer Wright at 215.701.8110 or swright@bbbssepa.org.
